Malathar's Dragons logo thing.. ya gotta have a logo! =)

Howdy!

As you can see I like to draw lil dragons! I hope you enjoy them!

I'm more then happy to share them with you! I get asked allot about how people can use them on their web sites or various projects so...

Here it is in a nutshell!

Schools and libraries or non-profit uses are free to use them without charge as long as such use isn't in any way violent, degrading, pornographic, morally objectionable or promote hate or violence.

They are free for use on fund raising materials such as t-shirts or other items for sale as long as all monies derived from such use are intended for non-profit use or support as long as such use also meets the conditions stated above. IE, no violent, porn, hate, morally objectionable or "mature audience" type use.

You may modify the artwork as long as such modification doesn't change the overall style or "feel" of each image. Acceptable modifications would be along the lines of... adding a hat or a shirt, adding some text or names to the image as long as such modification doesn't give the impression that someone else did the original art. (ie, adding your name to the bottom like an artists signature. "yes that happens!")

As for "for profit" use. My rule is. "If you make money off of them. I wants some too!" heheh! If you have any questions about my Acceptable use rules or want to use my artwork in a commercial way. Please email me. I'm sure we can work out an agreement!

My early dragon drawings were awful. Not that I really consider myself an expert now but the ones I drew in the beginning? MAN they were bad!! haha. I never had any formal art training aside from the general "class, draw this shoe!" stuff ya get in high school. So my style is pretty much an evolution of what I like in the styles of cartoons and stuff like that. With a lot of my own personality thrown in. I don't really go into much detail in my drawing as you can see. I really prefer to draw as simply as possible. I'm a sucker for the "awww ain't it CUTE! I wanna pet it!!" aspect of a drawing. I'm just pretty much a regular goofy guy. I like to joke and cut up and stuff. So do my dragons!

Generally it takes me anywhere from 5 to 40 minuets to draw up a rough pencil sketch depending upon how complex the pose is. The details of a pose can change during this process. (example, I changed the way this one was breathing fire.) After that comes the cleanup and inking (sharpies! razor point sharpies!) then scanning and coloring on the computer or by hand with colored pencils. Being basically a "hobby" artist I tend to use whatever supplies are at hand. Which means copier paper, #2 pencils and good ol $2 a box color pencils (Crayola and RoseArt) (real artists are probably feeling a small urge to vomit I suspect!) Claws and feet take the most time for me. Even though they're cartoon styled I tend to spend more time on them to get them to look right. Moreso the hands/claws than the feet. I think it's because for years I was scared to try to draw hands! My earliest dragons only had what I called "Paddle Paws"

Of all the dragons I draw, Malathar is my favorite. He's my #1 character! He's my alter ego! Malathar was the first dragon I was ever able to draw consistently. He really started me off into dragon artwork. Over the years he's evolved from a very simply drawn lil dragon into a somewhat more complex character. Malathar is the base model upon which everything else I've learned about drawing is based!

Here's good ol Mal (thats what his friends call him.) with his bicycle helmet. Why? He just thought the lightning bolt looked cool!
